I work both with independent authors and traditional publishers to help writers strengthen their manuscripts, identifying big-picture issues (plot, pacing, character development, point of view, central conflict, etc.) and suggesting revisions to take into the next draft.
I hold a certificate in developmental editing of fiction and volunteer with Typehouse Literary Magazine and the Independent Publishers of New England book awards.
Genres: Literary, Fantasy, Speculative, Mystery, Children’s Fiction, Young Adult Fiction, Romance, Memoir
“As a first-time novelist, I needed all the help I could get. Karin identified specific areas that could be elevated, from dialogue and character depth to clarifying and improving continuity around plot points. Perhaps most importantly, she noted where I had the opportunity to “show” rather than tell to better draw readers into the story. In other words, Karin is a compassionate, communicative editor — she helped me become a better writer.” - Gene Mineo, Buzzy’s Tune
I currently offer two options for authors:

I have a master’s degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and have worked both in-house and as a contributing writer and editor, with bylines in more than a dozen publications.
Today, my writing often focuses on mental health, social impact, and telling people’s stories through profiles and narrative nonfiction.
"Her observational skills, memory for detail, and ability to weave it all together into a coherent narrative are quite stunning. Her writing gracefully communicates complex research ideas in a manner that fleshes out the central ideas and relevancy using genuinely accessible language, without compromising accuracy."
Roger Allen, PhD, PT, professor emeritus at University of Puget Sound
